Blurring faces in photos is one of the most useful privacy operations. You might share photos of crowds, public events, or scenes that contain people who didn't consent to being photographed. Manually finding and blurring each face is tedious. AI-based detection does it automatically.

Most face-blurring tools upload your photos to servers for processing — which is exactly the wrong direction if you're worried about privacy. Our tool will detect and blur faces using on-device AI (a small face detection model that runs in WebAssembly), never sending your images anywhere.

When you'll need this

Common situations where this matters:

  • Sharing event photography. Conference attendees, concert crowds, public gatherings — anyone you can't individually ask for consent.
  • Posting protest or activist photos. Protect attendees from retaliation.
  • Real estate photography. Blur people who appear incidentally in property photos.
  • Documentary work. Anonymize sources or bystanders.
  • Social media of your kids' friends. Protect other parents' children when posting school photos.
  • News and journalism. Standard practice when subjects shouldn't be identified.

The tool will offer multiple blur styles (Gaussian, pixelate, black bar, emoji overlay), confidence threshold tuning, manual touch-up for missed faces, and batch processing.

Private by design

Like everything else on pictoolkit, this tool will process your images entirely in your browser. No upload, no server-side processing, no temporary storage. Your files stay on your device.

While we finish this one, you can use any of our live tools — compress, convert, resize, HEIC to JPG, and our full format conversion suite are all available now.

Common questions

Things people actually ask.

Modern in-browser face detection is highly accurate (95%+) for clearly visible faces. Side profiles, partially obscured faces, and very small faces are harder. We'll provide manual touch-up for edge cases.
